Many pests such as Stink Bugs, Asian Lady Beetles and other nuisance pests will enter homes in the Fall and find nice cozy places in wall voids and attics to over winter. These pests find our homes to over winter because to them, it is just like their natural winter habitat. Stink bugs will spend the winter under loose tree bark around the perimeter of fields. The gaps in home siding, windows and attics look just like the loose bark and consequently the insects find them inviting.
These pests begin to emerge again during late winter when a thaw occurs and they “wake up” from hibernation and think spring is here. This is when we get calls from customers to “do something” to get rid of these pests. There are some treatments that may help at this time but the best time to treat is in the Fall, usually from mid September to mid October depending on where you live. Excluding these pests using caulk or other materials is also very helpful if done before these pests enter your home. If they can’t get in they can’t cause you problems!
Mice can enter your home at any time since they do not hibernate. They will find holes in your home and attempt to enter in search of food and warm nesting areas. Closing holes up and having tight fitting door sweeps installed before they can enter is also the preferable way to prevent mouse infestations. PCT has very effective mouse treatment programs for both home and commercial buildings as well and can be performed during any time of year.
Don’t forget to call PCT for all of your pest management needs!
