Mice Have Taken Over York College Campus Housing Where The Pests Are Eating Human Foods
College is challenging enough without having the added stress of rodent infestations to deal with. This might have been your unfortunate experience in college if you lived at home or in your own apartment, but living in student housing, which the college is supposed to make sure is pest-free, is supposed to at least take some of the stress off by providing a clean and rodent-free place to sleep at night. One college in York, Pennsylvania is being attacked for not addressing a rodent problem in one of its student housing facilities, and the students living there are not taking the situation lightly.
Students at York College are upset with their housing situation, their unwanted rodent roommates to be specific. While the outside of Springettsbury Hall may look beautiful, the inside of this student accommodation is anything but. Students claim that the building is inundated with mice that have basically taken over. The problem started in September, but has steadily gotten worse as the months have passed. One of the students living in the building even ended up moving out after the rodent problem escalated to the point where, according to senior Olivia Gausch, the mice are regularly “destroying our clothes, eating our food, pooping and peeing everywhere.”
The school doesn’t seem to be handling the issue either. While students have complained of the infestation and asked that the school get rid of the pests regularly, they haven’t gotten much help. Placing sticky traps and pieces of soap around the building has done little to alleviate things. The school has actually gone so far as to blame the students for the infestation, claiming it is due to their not taking proper care of the house. Thankfully, the city of York is now stepping in. An inspector was sent in and determined that there was indeed a mice infestation, and that they needed to bring in a licensed exterminator to deal with the problem. York College now has 30 days to fix the mess or be forced to pay a fine for not complying.
